Social Enterprise NI Conference and Awards 2015

Last Thursday saw the annual Social Enterprise NI Conference and Awards take place at the Dunadry Hotel in Co. Antrim. The conference offered the opportunity to hear from speakers with a wealth of experience in the sector and take part in conversations around ‘building better supply chains’; while the awards recognised the hard work and impact of social enterprises in NI throughout the past year.
SENI Conference
Gauge NI were delighted to be exhibiting at the event alongside Loaf Catering and our parent social enterprise NOW Group. The market place stands offered a great networking opportunity to meet organisations we’d not spoken with before, as well as catch up with some familiar faces to discuss all things social impact.
Speakers at the conference included Rosie Jolly, CEO of Liverpool Social Enterprise Network, Karen Lynch, CEO of Belu Water and Hazel Blears, Labour MP for Salford. The speakers took part in workshops throughout the day and began the conference with a panel debate. The panel dealt with a range of issues, but one key message which was touched on by everyone was the possibilities that lie in collaborating with the private sector.
Rosie Jolly commented that there is an untapped market of private sector companies willing to work with social enterprises and the sector should explore the possibilities that lie in collaboration. She stressed that private sector companies shouldn’t see Corporate Social Responsibility as an add on they have to do, rather it should be integrated into the organisation and if they aren’t sure where to begin – adding social enterprises to their supply chain is a good way to start. This is something that we strongly believe in and have blogged about previously here
Award Winners
The conference was followed that evening by an awards ceremony to recognise the stand out companies in the Northern Ireland social enterprise sector.
Host Paul Clark began the night by inviting Maeve Monaghan, CEO of the NOW Group, on stage to talk about winning Social Enterprise of the Year in 2014. Maeve talked about the positive impact winning had on the organisation and its staff, she advised this year’s winner to use the opportunity as a chance to talk about the great work they do and incorporate the title into their marketing messaging.
There were a lot of inspiring organisations shortlisted for awards and our congratulations to the winners:
Social Impact Award – Newington Credit Union
Health and Social Care Social Enterprise Award – Arc Healthy Living
Consumer Facing Social Enterprise Award – Onus NI Ltd.
Education and Jobs Social Enterprise Award – South Antrim Community Network
